Flames Sweep Hatters for 4th Straight Win

DELAND, Fla. (libertyflames.com) -- After winning a pair of two-point sets, Liberty pulled away in the third set to earn a 3-0 sweep at Stetson (26-24, 25-23, 25-13) on Tuesday at Edmunds Center.     

With the win, its fourth in a row, Liberty improves to 18-9 (11-4 ASUN). Stetson falls to 10-14, 7-7 in ASUN play. The Lady Flames avenged a five-set loss to the Hatters from Oct. 13, as these teams split the season series.  

Notable Numbers
• For the match, Liberty outhit Stetson .306-.189. The Lady Flames also led in digs (54-51), blocks (10-5) and aces (4-1)

• Casey Goodwin sent down a match-high 18 kills and added 10 digs for her second straight double-double, while Amelia Johnson scored 16 kills at a .419 pace. Hannah Morris dished out a match-high 43 assists, while Macy Phillips collected a match-high 15 digs. Rajini Fitzmaurice collected 14 digs, while Anna Gragg posted a match-high six blocks.

• Three Hatters scored eight kills apiece, while Emily DeStaffino led Stetson with 30 assists.

SET 1
• Liberty led set one 24-21 before Stetson scored three straight points to tie it at 24-24. After a Stetson error, Johnson ended the set with a kill.   

• The Lady Flames outhit Stetson .289-.159 in the first, getting seven kills each from Johnson and Goodwin.    

SET 2
• Stetson held a 20-19 set-two advantage before Liberty ended the set on a 6-3 run, winning 25-23 when Fitzmaurice sent down the winning kill.    

• The Hatters outhit the Lady Flames .294-.200 in the second.    

SET 3
• The Lady Flames put the match away with a 25-13 victory in set three, outhitting the Hatters .471-.121.

• Liberty has posted its most conference wins in a season since going 11-5 in Big South play in 2016.

• Liberty is 8-3 in extended sets so far this season and 16-8 in sets decided by just two points. 

• Goodwin is now ranked 14th in program history with 1,101 career kills, passing Jessica Nelson (2004-08) tonight. Goodwin also entered a tie for ninth in program history (Ashley Webber, 2005-08) with 318 career blocks.

• Gragg passed Stacy Collier (1994-97) for fifth place in program history with 420 career blocks. 

• Johnson's 396 kills this season are already tied for fifth most in a single season in program history under the current 25-point rally-scoring system.

• Liberty is now in third place in the ASUN standings, one-half match behind Kennesaw State (11-3), who has matches at Jacksonville and Liberty remaining.

Liberty will host Kennesaw State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Vines Center in the Lady Flames' final regular-season contest of 2019. Prior to the match, Liberty will honor its four seniors – Payton Carter, Casey Goodwin, Anna Gragg and Hannah Morris – with a Senior Day ceremony.
