Lipscomb Posts Second-Best GPA; 11 Women’s #ASUNTF Students Recognized

ATLANTA, Ga. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) revealed its All-Academic Team for the 2018-19 academic year with the ASUN Conference having a total of 11 Women's Track & Field student-athletes honored for their academic achievement. Lipscomb posted the second-best overall team grade-point average (GPA) in the nation.

For the third year in a row, the Bisons' Women's Track & Field team posted a GPA that ranked second in the country with a combined cumulative GPA of 3.676. Lipscomb was also represented by Courtney Brenner, who maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA and was a member of the 2019 ASUN All-Academic Team, while being named one of the ASUN's Female Student-Athletes of the Year.

For the individual honors, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Liberty and Lipscomb each had at least one of its team members recognized for their academic achievement. Jacksonville, Kennesaw, Liberty, NJIT and North Florida were also honored for its achievements as a team with Lipscomb.

Liberty had the most members named to the team as six women were tabbed for the team. Among the honorees were Cortney Dowling, Tanner Ealum, Taylen Langin, Delaney McDowell, Noel Palmer and Kylie Polsgrove. The work of those seven and the entire team as a whole garnered the Flames team award with a total cumulative GPA of 3.41.

Jacksonville had two student-athletes bestowed with the honor including Jacquelyn Baldwin and Shalah Smiling. The Dolphins program achieved a GPA of 3.55, to be recognized for the 18th consecutive year as a team by the USTFCCCA.

Kennesaw State was represented on the list by two of its student-athletes. Jordan Gray and Julia Tarvide each met the criteria for selection as deemed by the USTFCCCA. The Owls maintained a 3.20 GPA over the course of the 2018-19 academic year.

The Ospreys held the second-highest GPA among ASUN programs, finishing the 2018-19 academic year with a 3.57 cumulative GPA. The NJIT Highlander women compiled a team-wide GPA of 3.24 in 2018-19, earning the programs 10th recognition.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a GPA of 3.25 and meet one of the following athletic standards:

  • For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the top 96 of a national individual event or in the top 48 of a national relay event.
  • For outdoor, an athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships.

To qualify for USTFCCA All-Academic honors as a team, a team must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.
