ATLANTA, Ga. - As a new year of ASUN Conference Women's Tennis is set to get into full swing, we take a closer look at the NJIT Highlanders who begin their 2020 season on Jan. 24.
NJIT enters the new year looking to improve upon the team's 13-9 overall records in 2019. The Highlanders finished with a 2-5 record in conference play and advanced to the ASUN Championship where they fell to Lipscomb. This season's roster features no seniors but boasts top returners in sophomore co-captains Joleta Budiman and Mouna Bouzgarrou. Budiman was selected First Team All-Conference, unanimous All-Freshman Team and one half of the Doubles Pair of the Year. She also earned the ASUN Freshman of the Year honor as she went 11-4 in No. 1 singles action. Bouzgarrou held a 12-4 overall single mark to be named Second Team All-Conference and was also unanimously selected to the All-Freshman Team.
The Highlanders begin their 2020 campaign at home in Newark when they face Sacred Heart on Jan. 24. This is followed by another home contest against Fairleigh Dickinson a week later on Jan. 31. NJIT will play a total of 13 matches on the road including their first two league contests against Liberty on March 26 and Kennesaw State on March 28.
