North Florida Set to Face South Carolina to Open NCAA Women's Tennis Championship

- North Florida women's tennis drew overall No. 4 seed South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Championship set in Columbia, S.C. beginning on Friday, May 3.

"We are excited to continue our season and compete at the highest level," said head coach Mariana Cobra. "We have put in the work and have seen most of the South Carolina team before. We played well against them and even though we lost, we have grown as a individuals and as a team. 

North Florida (17-7) earns its fifth straight bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the ASUN Championship. It is the first time UNF faces South Carolina (20-3) in the NCAA tournament and is the fourth meeting overall with the Gamecocks winning each of the previous meetings. The Gamecocks earned the No. 5 seed in the SEC tournament and upset top-seeded Georgia to claim their first ever SEC Championship. 

In addition to South Carolina and UNF, Virginia and Old Dominion are competing in Columbia.

The Ospreys are led by ASUN Tournament MVP Rafaela Gomez who was named to the ASUN All-Conference first team and earned All-Academic honors. She clinched the match to help UNF defeat FGCU, 4-3, as the Ospreys won their eighth title in nine years and became the first ASUN program to win five conference titles in a row.
