FGCU's Ascua Becomes Third Eagle Named @ASUNTennis Scholar-Athlete

2019 ASUN All-Academic Team

ATLANTA, Ga. -
FGCU's Julia Ascua earned recognition as the ASUN Conference Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced Wednesday by the league office. Ascua and five other Women's Tennis student-athletes highlight the All-Academic Team.

Ascua is the third Eagles to earn Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year joining Julianna Curtis (2017) and Elizabeth Means (2016). Holding a 3.93 cumulative GPA as an Accounting major at FGCU, Ascua lands on the All-Academic Team for the third-straight season becoming the fifth student-athlete in league history to accomplish the feat and third Eagle to do so. This year, she registered an 8-6 record on courts playing at the No. 3 slot with a 2-2 record in conference matches.

The All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom and exemplify the ASUN's mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's games.
