ATLANTA, Ga. - Three ASUN Conference Women's Soccer student-athletes were named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams, announced today by the organization. FGCU's Opal Curless and Evdokia Popadinova were selected to the District 4 Team while Lipscomb's Maycie McKay was a selection for District 3. Curless, McKay and Popadinova are also members of the 2019 ASUN Women's Soccer All-Academic Team.
Curless, who owns a 4.0 GPA in Psychology. was one of five FGCU student-athletes named to the ASUN All-Academic team. This year, she played the full duration in all but two matches and played a large role in the Eagles' strong back line. She helped the team to its league-high eight regular-season shutouts and assisted in holding opponents to just 16 goals, the lowest in the ASUN.
Popadinova, a 3.87 GPA student majoring in Integrated Studies, recently became the fifth player in program history to be named ASUN Player of the Year. A unanimous First Team All-ASUN selection, as well as a member of the All-Academic Team, she led FGCU with 24 points and closed out her career ranked third all-time with 25 career goals and sixth all-time with 59 career points
McKay, a Brentwood, Tenn. native, has had an outstanding senior campaign notching six goals, a team-leading seven assists and 19 points, as well as a First Team All-Conference selection. She was also voted to the ASUN All-Academic Team with an impressive 4.0 GPA in Mathematics Teaching.
The 2019 Academic All-District Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Honorees selected First Team Academic All-District advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
