Hansford Secures Lipcomb's Second Season Win in Overtime

LakePoint, Ga. - Arielle Hansford picked the perfect time to notch her first goal of the season, as the junior slotted the ball into the back of the net in the 99th minute of action to give Lipscomb (2-3-2) a 2-1 win over Western Carolina (1-4-1) in overtime at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

Hansford only played 18 minutes on the night, but she made the most of her time on the field by taking a team-high three shots and landing the game-winner in the first period of extra time.

Redshirt-senior Ellen Lundy gave the Bisons their first goal of the match, heading home a corner kick by sophomore Leah Cernicky to tie it up at one score apiece in the 68th minute. The goal was Lundy's second of the season.

WCU's Deyana Walker netted the first goal of the night in the 23rd minute, giving the Catamounts an early lead they would hold until late in the second half.

Lipscomb Women's Soccer Head Coach Kevin O'Brien's Thoughts:

"I am really proud of the fight we showed tonight. It was disappointing to be behind at the half, but I could see it in the players' eyes that they were going to respond well in the second half. And they did.

"From scouting Western, we knew it was going to be a hard-fought, physical contest. It was certainly that. Our girls rose to the occasion and matched their physicality, and I thought played some excellent soccer too.

"We'll enjoy it for a day and then it's all about preparing for a very dangerous Vanderbilt team on Sunday."
