INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (lipscombsports.com) - The Lipscomb women's golf team won its second tournament of the fall season at the Butler Fall Invitational this afternoon with a 54-hole total of 905 (310-293-302).
The Bisons held on to their lead after the first 36-holes, which saw the Purple and Gold set a new school-record 18-hole score of 293, to take home the trophy by nine strokes over host-team Butler (914).
Lipscomb has now won two of the three tournaments it has participated in this fall season. The Bisons took home top honors in their first tournament of the year at the MSU Greenbrier Invitational last month.
The Purple and Gold were led by a trio of top-10 finishes from Rachael McMahan, Emily Keeling and Mary Kate Smith.
McMahan had the best finish for the Bisons in third place at 224 (76-74-74). McMahan's performance was her best individual finish in her Lipscomb career.
Finishing one stroke behind McMahan was Keeling. The sophomore ended in a tied for fourth at 225 (77-71-77) and recorded her second top-5 finish of the season. Keeling was tied for the lead after the first day by firing a career-low 18-hole score of 71 in the second round.
Smith went on to place eighth at 227 (78-75-74). She saved her best round for last with her final-round score of 74, which was tied with McMahan for the lowest score by Lipscomb on the day.
Sarah Hinton and Kaylee Wu rounded out the team scores for the Bisons with a pair of top-25 finishes, respectively. Hinton tied for 15th at 233 (83-73-77), while Wu came in 21st at 237 (79-79-79).
"I'm so proud of the girls, yet again," head coach Jesse Lawley said. "We definitely got off to a rough start yesterday, but I am so excited for the rally over the last half of the tournament. We played well again today and I'm so happy to bring home another trophy to Nashville.
"I love the fight and the grit this team has. It's such a privilege to coach them. We have a quick turnaround this week at practice before we head to Arkansas State next weekend. Go Bisons!"
The women's golf team will look to keep the momentum going at the Lady Red Wolves Classic next week, Oct. 14-15, in Jonesboro, Ark.
