Lipscomb Wins First Tournament Title Since 2013 at the MSU Greenbrier Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. ( – In its first tournament of the 2019-20 season the Lipscomb women's golf team went wire-to-wire and took home the team title this afternoon with a school-record 908.

The Bisons were able to hold on to their lead after the first 36-holes of competition and fired a final round 302 to win the tournament by four strokes over rival Belmont (912). This was Lipscomb's first tournament victory since 2013 (Big Blue Intercollegiate).

The Purple and Gold had five of their seven total players in the field finish with top-15 performances.

Sophomore Emily Keeling paced the Bisons and fired a 75 in her final round to end with a second place finish at 219. Keeling's 54-hole total is the second-lowest mark in program history and was just one stroke shy of tying the record set by Samantha Griffith in 2014 at the Jan Weaver MSU Invitational.

"I'm so proud of Emily's individual performance," head coach Jesse Lawley said. "I preach team always, and my team knows this, but I do want to give a shout out for Emily. She truly led the way for us this week with her scoring."

Freshman Izzy Cantwell made an impressive collegiate debut and recorded a top-10 finish by tying for ninth at 228. Cantwell competed as an individual and fired a 73 (1-over) in her final round.

Senior Rachael McMahan posted the best finish in her Lipscomb career by tying for 12th at 230. McMahan's rounds of 77-75-78 set a personal career-low 54-hole mark while wearing the Purple and Gold.

A duo of freshmen rounded out the top-15 performances for the Bisons in Olivia DiPaolo and Mary Kate Smith, who both tied for 15th at 231. Smith carded a final round 73, while DiPaolo carded a 76.

"I'm trying to come up with words right now but all I've got is wow," Lawley said. "I'm so proud of my girls, proud of my freshman coming in and playing well and so proud of my upperclassmen leading the way.

"It truly shows how hard they work every single day. I'm just so humbled to be their coach every day and now it's time to get ready for Jacksonville."

The Bisons will return to the links Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Bubba Burger Jacksonville Classic in Jacksonville, Florida.
