2019-20 @ASUNWBB Season Preview: Liberty Flames

Liberty Schedule

ATLANTA, Ga. - With the 2019-20 ASUN Women's Basketball season approaching, we scope out our nine conference squads in preparation of the 35th season. Today, we spotlight the Liberty Flames who are gearing up for their second season competing in the ASUN after reaching the Championship Final last season.

Head Coach Carey Green enters his 21st season at the helm of the Flames, who have added seven new faces to its roster. Two key returners for Liberty from last season are Emily Lytle and Bridgette Rettstatt, both of which were selected to the ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team. Lytle led the Flames in scoring averaging 12.4 points per game a year ago. The junior tied the single-season record making 64 shots from beyond the arch, a record which was set in the Flames 1989-90 campaign. Rettstatt averaged 11 points and 7 boards per game last season and ranked fourth in the ASUN in overall field goal percentage (.502). Liberty will also return Keyen Green who missed last season due to injury. Green was the 2017-18 Big South Player of the Year and finished her last season ranked 11th nationally for field goal percentage (.610).

This season, Liberty will play two-game tournaments at the Miami Thanksgiving Classic (Nov. 29-30; Miami (Ohio) and Oregon State) and the Roo Holiday Classic (Dec. 20-21; Bradley and Kansas City). The matchup against Kansas City will be the end the non-conference portion of the schedule as the Flames will begin ASUN play on Jan. 4 on the road in Newark, N.J. against the Highlanders.
