Four Team's Competed Over the Weekend in Louisville; NJIT Wins Home Meet

Men's Cross Country Schedule

ATLANTA, Ga. - Five ASUN squads ran in meets this past weekend to continue the 2019 Men's Cross Country season. Teams from FGCU, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb and Stetson competed first at the Greater Louisville Classic Saturday at 9:30 AM. Later that afternoon, NJIT hosted the Highlander XC Challenge.

The Men's Gold 8K in Louisville, Ky., featured the Bisons, Eagles and Hatters among the field of 41 teams. Lipscomb's Brent Leber (23:49.8, 8th) had the best time in the race for any ASUN runner. He was followed in the top 30 finishers by Stetson's Tristen Montalvo (24:42.2, 24th) and fellow Bison Zach Israel (24:23.6, 30th). Lucas Kiprotic led the Eagles with his time of 24:32.8 and a finish in 46th place. Other top-100 finishers for the conference in the 8K race were Ronald Kigen (24:37.0, 51st, Lipscomb), Hillary Melly (24:42.2, 58th, Stetson), Scott McKenzie (24:46.0, 62nd, Lipscomb), Joseph Tolman (24:56.6, 83rd, Stetson) and Austin Redondo (24:58.9, 90th, FGCU). The Bisons finished fourth in the face followed by the Hatters in 15th place and the Eagles in 25th. Stetson hits the course again Friday, Oct. 11th at the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla., while Kennesaw State and Lipscomb compete Friday, Oct. 18th at the Blazer Classic in Montevallo, Ala. This was FGCU's final meet of the season before hosting the 2019 ASUN Championship on Nov. 2nd in Fort Myers, Fla.

Kennesaw State competed in the Blue 8K at the Greater Louisville Classic and finished in 12th place out of the 57-team field. The Owls were led in the race by Mekhi Williams who crossed the line at 25:06.5 for an 18th-place finish. Other top finishers for KSU were Koi Williams (25:16.1, 26th) and Austin Muse (26:29.9, 120th). Every Owl that finished the race on Saturday posted a personal best 8K time. KSU returns to action on Friday, Oct. 18th at the Blazer Classic in Montevallo, Ala.

NJIT hosted the Highlander XC Challenge on Saturday at Newark's Branch Brook Park. The Highlanders ended the 8K race in first place overall out of a 31-team field. Ryan Budhu led the team with a third-place finish and was the fastest Division I runner in the meet with a time of 25:17.73. The top five finishers for NJIT all crossed the line within the top 10. Joining Budhu were Reyden Davies (25:45.93, 7th), Gerard Gill (25:48.87, 8th), Robert Spies (25:54.77, 9th) and Brian McGlew (25:58.16, 10th). NJIT's final tune-up race before the 2019 ASUN Championship comes this Friday, Oct. 11th in the Bronx at the Metropolitan Championships.
