2020 Men's @ASUNTennis Season Opens Friday; Eagles Tabbed Preseason Favorite

Men's Tennis Preseason Poll 


ATLANTA, Ga. - The defending ASUN Conference Men's Tennis Champion FGCU enters the new season as favorites to win the 2020 title after claiming the top spot in the preseason coaches poll, announced Tuesday by the league office. The Eagles have claimed three ASUN Championships in the past five seasons.

The Eagles earned 59 points in the poll behind five first-place votes. The defending ASUN Regular Season Champions finished a perfect 7-0 in league play for 2019. Liberty, who is entering their second season in the conference, was slotted right behind FGCU in second with 56 points and two first-place votes. Last season's championship runner-up North Florida placed third with one first-place vote and a total of 52 points. The Ospreys won the ASUN Championship title and NCAA bid in 2016 & 2018.

Kennesaw State (35 points) and Stetson (31) rounded out the top five with Lipscomb (29), NJIT (18) North Alabama (8) landing in the final three spots of the poll.

The regular season begins on Friday, Jan. 10, as North Alabama makes a road trip to battle Auburn then follow that up with a matchup against Ole Miss on Jan. 15. The rest of the ASUN squads begin play throughout the coming weeks in preparation for conference play which begins on March 21 between FGCU and Stetson, picking up again on Thursday, March 26, with all eight squads in action.

The 2020 ASUN Men's Tennis Championship takes place April 24-26, hosted by Liberty at the Cook Tennis Center in Lynchburg, Va. The Quarterfinal matches take place on Friday, April 24, followed by the Semifinals on Saturday, April 25. The Men's Championship Final is on Sunday, April 26. All match times are at 10 AM.
