2020 Men's @ASUNTennis Season Preview: FGCU Eagles

FGCU Schedule

ATLANTA, Ga. - As a new year of ASUN Conference Men's Tennis is set to go into full swing, we take a closer look at the FGCU Eagles who begin their 2020 season on January 11.

Defending champion FGCU enters the new season looking to become the first league squad to win back-to-back titles since 2014. The Eagles have alternated championship seasons with North Florida since then by finishing atop the conference in 2015, 17 & 19. CJ Weber, the 2019 Coach of the Year, enters his ninth season as Head Coach for FGCU and has led the team to an undefeated conference record three times during his tenure. Among this season's returners are 2019 All-Conference selections Juan Montes and Felipe Ramirez. Montes posted an 8-10 overall record in singles play and went 3-3 in league action. Ramirez had a 4-1 mark in singles conference play and earned postseason honors for the third year in a row.

The Eagles begin their title defense with a home match at the FGCU Tennis Complex against 2019 NCAA Tournament participant USF on Jan. 11. FGCU's next two contests also take place in Fort Myers against Georgia Southern (Jan. 17) and Florida A&M (Jan. 18). The team faces in-state opponent Miami, who also reached last season's NCAA Tournament, on February 15 at home. FGCU's first conference opponent is Stetson on March 21, while a rematch of the 2019 ASUN Championship Final takes place on April 11, when the Eagles travel to Jacksonville to battle North Florida.
