DeLAND, Fla. - Debuting in the 2019 ASUN Conference Men's Tennis Championship, FGCU took a 4-0 win vs. Kennesaw State to advance into the Finals where they now prepare to face off with North Florida on Sunday morning.
Due to inclement weather, the match between the Eagles and Owls was suspended and resumed on Saturday morning with a score of 1-0 following doubles action. The Eagles took two doubles matches on Friday afternoon before inclement weather moved into the DeLand area and caused the match to be delayed.
Singles play went the Eagles way as well, sweeping the Owls with three wins on the morning. The wins for the Eagles came on courts two, three, four and six with each coming in straight sets. The trio of Felipe Ramirez, Felipe Escobar and Javier Fernandez were the winners for FGCU with Second-Team All Conference honorees Ramirez and Escobar having to go into a first-set tie break.
The Eagles advance into the Finals for the first time since 2017 when as the four seed, the Eagles topped sixth-seeded Lipscomb 4-2. This marks the third overall appearance for FGCU in the Men's Tennis finals while the team holds a perfect 2-0 mark in such contests. One of the previous times in the finals came against UNF when the Eagles topped the Ospreys 4-3 in 2015.
