ATLANTA, Ga. - Three former ASUN Conference Men's Basketball student-athletes have spots on NBA team rosters heading into the 2019-20 season. Torrey Craig with the Denver Nuggets, Brandon Goodwin with the Atlanta Hawks and Garrison Mathews with the Washington Wizards.
Craig earned 2011 ASUN Freshman of the Year and 2012 Player of the Year honors while playing from 2010 to 2014. In his senior season, he reached the 2,000 career-point milestone for his collegiate career. He enters his third season in the NBA and has built his reputation as a strong defender, even starting for the Nuggets in the 2019 NBA Playoffs. This summer, he was chosen to be a member of the USA Men's Select Team.
Former FGCU standout Goodwin signed a two-way contract with the Hawks this offseason. He spent 2018 on the same type of deal with the Denver Nuggets where he appeared in 16 games while also taking the court for the Memphis Hustle and Iowa Wolves of the NBA G League. He averaged a team-best 18.5 points per game and shot 49 percent from the field in four NBA Summer League contests to earn his contract with the Hawks. While in college, he earned 2018 ASUN Player of the Year, 2017 Newcomer of the Year and 2017 Tournament MVP honors.
Mathews, last year's ASUN Player of the Year and the 2018 Tournament MVP, has the opportunity to be the first Lipscomb player to participate in an NBA game. He signed a two-way contract with the Wizards after averaging 9.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game during NBA Summer League play. His 360 career three-point field goals rank first in ASUN history, while his 2,478 career points are second-best in the league record books.
