Former @ASUNMBB Players Complete NBA Summer League Action


LAS VEGAS – A quartet of former ASUN Conference Men's Basketball standouts recently wrapped up participation in NBA Summer League action, July 5-15. Former conference student-athletes Brandon Goodwin (FGCU), Garrison Mathews (Lipscomb), Kendrick Ray (Kennesaw State) and Rayjon Tucker (FGCU) saw the floor in multiple games in Las Vegas.

Brandon Goodwin | Denver Nuggets | FGCU (2016-18)

  • Averaged a team-best 18.5 PPG to go along with 5.5 APG, 1.5 RPG and 1.3 SPG, while shooting 49 percent from the field in four contests
  • Tallied a game-high 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting vs. the Boston Celtics
  • Scored a game-high 22 points (8-of-13) with six assists against the Houston Rockets
  • Added 16 points and seven assists (vs. Orlando Magic) and eight points and five assists (vs. Golden State Warriors) in final two games.
  • ASUN Player of the Year (2017-18), ASUN Newcomer of the Year (2016-17), ASUN Tournament MVP (2017), six-time Newcomer of the Week, three-time Player of the Week, two-time All-Tournament Team honoree

Garrison Mathews | Washington Wizards | Lipscomb (2015-19)

  • Averaged 9.7 PPG and 2.3 RPG in three outings for the Wizards
  • Second on the team with 11 points, adding four rebounds and one steal against the Atlanta Hawks
  • Tallied 11 points with three rebounds vs. the New York Knicks
  • Shot 39 percent (9-of-23) from the field and 35 percent (6-of-17) from behind the arc
  • ASUN Player of the Year (2018-19), ASUN Tournament MVP (2018), 13-time Player of the Week, 360 career 3FGM (1st in ASUN history), 2,478 career points (2nd in ASUN history), 608 FTM (3rd in ASUN history)

Kendrick Ray | Boston Celtics | Kennesaw State (2015-17)

  • Saw action in a pair of games averaging 6.5 points on 40 percent shooting
  • Averaged 2.5 RPG and 2.0 APG in those contests
  • Best game came against the Philadelphia 76ers with eight points, five rebounds and three assists
  • Added five points with an assist and steal vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers
  • ASUN All-Tournament Team (2017), 2015-16 Newcomer of the Year, two-time ASUN All-Conference, four-time Newcomer of the Week, two-time Player of the Week

Rayjon Tucker | Milwaukee Bucks | FGCU (2015-17)

  • Averaged 10.2 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 1.0 APG and 1.0 SPG in NBA Summer League play
  • Saw action in five games going 15-of-35 (43%) from the field
  • Second on his Bucks squad in scoring in a pair of games -- 13 points vs. the Portland Trailblazers & 12 points vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves
  • Pulled down seven rebounds against the Atlanta Hawks and had six boards vs. the T-Wolves
  • Had double figures scoring efforts in four of his fives contests

Mathews recently signed a two-way contract with the Washington Wizards, while Goodwin appeared in 16 games last season as a two-way contract signee helping the Denver Nuggets secure the Western Conference's No. 2 seed in the NBA Playoffs. He is currently a restricted free agent.
