 - Second-Team All-Conference selection J.C. Hampton scored a career-high 35 points and led a quartet of Lipscomb Bisons in double figures as No. 6 seed Lipscomb topped host No. 3 Jacksonville 92-89 in overtime of the 2016 Atlantic Sun Men's Basketball Quarterfinals.

The point total for Hampton is a Lipscomb program record for points in an A-Sun Championship game and the third-most for a Lipscomb player in the program's Division I era. Jacksonville's Daniel Fernandez also set a new mark for JU in the championship, leading the Dolphins with a career-high 31 points in his first year with the Dolphins. Hampton finished 13-of-22 from the field while Fernandez was 7-of-12 from the field and 11-of-12 from the free throw line.

In a tightly-contested overtime, the Bisons outscored the Dolphins 12-9. All-Freshmen selection Garrison Mathews knocked down a jumper with 29 seconds remaining to give Lipscomb a four-point lead, while Nathan Moran added five points in overtime as the Bisons claimed the victory. The Bisons have now needed overtime to decided their A-Sun Quarterfinal in three consecutive seasons.

An exciting first half was defined by runs from both teams. Trailing 5-3, Lipscomb took control early with a 12-0 run on the strength of multiple three-pointers to take a 15-5 lead within the first five minutes of the game. The teams traded baskets for the next five minutes and the Bisons maintained a nine-point lead, 23-14, when JU began a streak of its own. Sparked by 14 first-half points from Fernandez off the bench, the Dolphins went on a 15-3 run over the next four and half minutes to regain the lead at 37-30 with five minutes remaining in the half. Lipscomb's Hampton scored six of his 20 first-half points in the last four minutes to spur a 14-2 Bison run to close out the half and take a 44-39 lead into halftime.

Jacksonville erased a 44-39 halftime deficit and took the lead with five minutes elapsed in the second half, 51-50. The Dolphins led for most of the second period until Cam Miller was fouled on a made layup and converted the free-throw to give the Bisons the advantage, 78-76, with just over two minutes remaining. A JU free throw cut the Lipscomb lead to one, 78-77, and Fernandez knocked down a pair of three throws with 1:03 remaining to give the Dolphins the upper-hand, 79-78. A made free throw for the Dolphins extended the score to 80-78, but a Hampton layup tied the score at 80-80 with 30 seconds remaining. A JU basket was waived off with two seconds remaining due to an offensive foul on Josh Adeyeye, and the game advanced to overtime.

The Bisons advance to the semifinals to host No. 7 Stetson at Allen Arena in Nashville on Thursday, March 3 at 6 PM CT. The seventh-seeded Hatters claimed an 82-67 road upset at No. 2 NJIT.
