Mercer's Gollon Named A-Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year

MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference honored Mercer's Jakob Gollon as the 2014 Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year to highlight the league’s Academic All-Conference team.

Gollon owns a 3.91 cumulative GPA as he earned his Masters in Educational Leadership following completing his undergraduate degree with a 3.47 GPA. The senior is averaging 7.6 point per game as he has helped the Bears to their second-straight Atlantic Sun Regular-Season title. The Stevens Point, Wis. native has scored over 1,000 points in his career and has played in 149 games, which is tied for seventh-most in NCAA history. A two-time A-Sun All-Academic honoree, Gollon is also a two-time Capital One Academic All-District Team member and is one of 30 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award.

The A-Sun introduced the new sport-by-sport Academic All-Conference teams in the 2011-12 academic year to recognize student-athletes who embody the conference’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better and participated in at least half of their team’s games.
