It was a pitcher's duel down in DeLand on Friday night night as Stetson's Daniel Paret and UNF's Brad Deppermann went pitch-for-pitch. Paret went eight innings, while allowing just two hits, no runs and striking out nine. Deppermann too allowed no earned runs, while striking out eight batters. The Hatters came away victorious though, as two unearned crossed the plate in first and third innings. The Hatters look to capture a series victory on Friday night, as they host North Florida at Melching Field with 6:30 PM ET first pitch. The Ospreys can clinch a spot in the ASUN Championship with a victory.
Jacksonville pulled out a big comeback victory vs. Kennesaw State, hitting four homers in the contest to secure a 9-6 win on the road. Duncan Hunter was the star of the night, hitting a pair of homers including a two-run shot that gave JU a 6-5 lead in the sixth after trailing 5-2 after three innings. The Dolphins' bullpen was fantastic on the night, allowing just one run on Justin Russell's 10th homer of the year, and getting shutout appearances from Kevin Faulkner, Trent Palmer and Zach Bryant. Jacksonville has already clinched a spot in the ASUN Championship but could move as high as second place depending on results in the Liberty-FGCU series this weekend. The series with KSU continues tomorrow afternoon with a 2 PM ET first pitch.
It was a rough start for the Bisons on Thursday night in the Music City, as North Alabama jumped out a 2-0 lead in the first. The Lions wouldn't keep that lead for long, as Lipscomb responded with three runs in the bottom half. It was a lead that the Bisons wouldnt relinquish, as Chris Kachmar settled in to fire eight innings, with 10 Ks and just one walk. Jackson Furstace drove in two runs on two sac-flys, while Cade Sorrells, Zeke Dodson and David Graves notched RBIs. With the win and KSU loss on Thursday, the Bisons have clinched their spot at the ASUN Championship next week in DeLand, Fla.
FGCU now sits one win away from a regular season title after topping Liberty 7-4 at home. The Eagles relied on the power at the plate, hitting three homers as a team to get the big victory. The deciding blow came from reigning Player of the Week Keith Stevens, who sent a towering two-run shot into the night sky of Fort Myers to give the Eagles a 6-4 lead in the seventh and what held up for the winning runs. FGCU's chance to clinch the top spot in the ASUN Championship comes tomorrow night with first pitch slated for 6:30 PM from Fort Myers.
