Key Weekend @ASUNBSB Showdowns Set to Shake Standings as Calendar Flips to May


ATLANTA, GA. - ASUN Conference Baseball is entering its final few weeks of the regular season and conference play is winding down with the ASUN Championship coming into view. The first weekend of play in the month of May features battles that will shake up the standings, making for an exciting finish to the ASUN Baseball season over the coming weeks.

FGCU Eagles (30-15; 12-3)

- After sitting in a tie for first last weekend, the Eagles are alone in first place by two games over Liberty. The two sides do not meet until the final weekend of the season
- A midseason Pitcher of the Year watch list member, Mason Studstill leads the ASUN with 84 strikeouts thus far. He paces the league with a 1.44 ERA as well
- FGCU's 17 homers as a team during conference play are the most among all nine teams. The Eagles are one of just four to hit double-figure bombs, joined by Liberty, Kennesaw State and NJIT

Jacksonville Dolphins (24-20; 9-9)

- The Dolphins sit at .500 in conference play following a series win vs. Liberty last weekend. JU takes a break from ASUN action with a non-confrence series at Austin Peay this coming weekend
- Preseason Player of the Year Angel Camacho leads the ASUN with nine home runs and sits fourth with a .331 batting average. Both marks represent career-highs for the standout senior
- Jacksonville has committed the second-fewest errors as a team this season, totaling 42 through 44 games. Only Liberty's 41 sits as a better mark in the ASUN

Kennesaw State Owls (21-24; 7-8)

- Kennesaw State welcomes Liberty into town for the first time as conference foes. The two sides have met four times previously with the latest coming in 2015
- The Owls' offense has led them to fifth place in the league standings. KSU ranks first in the ASUN with a .287 team average and .416 slugging percentage
- Tyler Simon and Terence Norman rank second and third in the ASUN for batting average when factoring in conference games only. Simon hits .400 while Norman sits at .391

Liberty Flames (30-14; 10-5)

- The Flames look to get back to their winning ways with a three-game set vs. Kennesaw State. The Flames are 3-1 all-time vs. the Owls with the most recent meeting in 2015
- Freshman Gray Betts leads the ASUN with a .410 average during conference play. He paces the conference with a .561 on-base percentage as well
- Liberty's 3.27 staff ERA is the best among all ASUN teams and the only mark below 3.90. Across Division I, Liberty's mark ranks 12th in the country

Lipscomb Bisons (24-20; 8-7)

- Lipscomb sits one game above .500 in league play following a sweep of Stetson last weekend. The Bisons continue a conference homestand with UNF coming to town holding an 8-6 record
- Cade Sorrells leads the ASUN with 46 RBIs this season, a career-high for the senior. He has stacked his totals with 21 RBIs in conference play through just 15 games
- Senior Chris Kachmar is in a tie for second place in the ASUN with six wins this season. That mark doubles the total he had last season, debuting with three wins in his first season with the Bisons

NJIT Highlanders (14-23-1; 5-13)

- The Highlanders have a chance to gain ground in the ASUN standings with a three-game set vs. North Alabama on the road. Each team currently has five wins in conference play
- Six players for NJIT have hit at least three home runs this season, adding up to 25 of the team's 27 hit this year. Sophomore Julio Marcano paces the team with six long bombs
- As a team, the Highlanders have turned 15 double plays in the field during conference play, the most of any team. Overall they have turned 29 for the entire season

North Alabama Lions (12-32; 5-12)

- The Lions look to get back to winning in the ASUN with NJIT coming to town. The Lions hold a half-game advantage over the Highlanders in the ASUN standings heading into the weekend
- The Lions lead the conference with 69 stolen bases this season, the most of any team by five over Lipscomb. That mark ranks tied for 45th across the nation
- Reliever Bryant Claunch ranks fifth in the ASUN with a 2.68 ERA. When counting only conference games, Claunch has a 2.48 ERA which also ranks fifth in the conference

North Florida Ospreys (26-18; 8-6)

- Sitting in third place at 8-6, the Ospreys travel to Nashville to face the 8-7 Lipscomb Bisons. The Ospreys have played just four road games in conference play so far, holding a 1-3 record
- Jay Prather leads all hitters in the ASUN with a .362 batting average this year. Across the nation, Prather's mark ranks 98th in the country as one of 107 hitters to bat .360 or better
- The UNF pitching staff has walked just 40 hitters in conference play, the fewest allowed by any team. For the entire season, North Florida pitchers have issued only 154 free passes.

Stetson Hatters (18-26; 7-8)
