North Alabama Routs Alabama State 14-2; Wins Third Game in Last Four


FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of North Alabama scored a season-high 14 runs on 14 hits and five Lion pitchers threw a combined three-hitter as UNA downed Alabama State 14-2 at Mike Lane Field.

UNA scored three runs in the first inning, added three more in the second and scored in six of the innings that the Lions batted.

The win ups UNA's record to 10-26 overall and the Lions have now gone 7-7 in their last 14 games after a 3-19 start in their first season in Division I.

Alabama State is now 20-16 with the loss.

UNA drew two walks to open the game and Reid Homan had an RBI single and Drew Hudson a two-run single to make it 3-0 in the first inning.

In the second, Davis Elliott hit his fourth home run of the season and a pair of walks were followed by a two-run double by Peyton Sockwell.

After Alabama State scored a run in the third, UNA got single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to make it 9-1. In the seventh, the Lions loaded the bases and scored when Reid SIngewald walked in a run and Sockwell was hit-by-pitch to score another. Two more runs scored on a Hudson double and Harris Kain drove in the final run with a groundout.

Alabama State scored its only other run in the top of the eighth.

Keegan Foge, the second of five UNA pitchers in the game, got the win. He pitched four complete innings and allowed no runs or hits. He walked three and struckout two. Josh Stillman started and went 2.2 innings and gave up one run on two hits. Adam Mancour, Colton teal and Nick Cummings also pitched for the Lions.

UNA hosts a three-game ASUN Conference series at Mike Lane Field against North Florida beginning Thursday.
