North Alabama picked up its statement win in ASUN play on the afternoon, overcoming a 7-1 deficit in the ninth inning at Jacksonville to win 9-7 in shocking fashion. The Lions combined for five hits in the inning, drawing three walks as well. After getting a man on and then getting an out, the Lions saw seven-straight reach base, chipping away at the Dolphin lead in the process. A Kevin Brenning double plated the tying runs to make the game 7-7, while scoring himself on the play due to a JU error, coming behind another runner to put the score at 9-7. The series continues in Jacksonville with a 2 PM ET slated first pitch.
Brad Deppermann's eight shutout innings propelled North Florida to a 4-0 win to open a home series vs. NJIT. The Preseason All-Conference selection struck out 11 hitters across his line of work, working around NJIT base runners to keep the visiting Highlanders off the board in what was a 1-0 game until the sixth inning. The Ospreys then opened the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single from Alex Reynolds, followed up by a two-run double from David Maberry. The Ospreys can clinch the series win vs. NJIT with the second game of the set beginning tomorrow at 2 PM.
FGCU rode a pair of homers to an 8-4 win to open a three-game slate at Kennesaw State. Richie Garcia's homer in the second inning gave FGCU a 2-1 lead, a lead they would never surrender as the team continued to add insurance runs throughout the contest. Leading 5-1 in the eighth, FGCU surrendered a pair of KSU runs to make things interesting before tacking on three more in the ninth to put the game on ice. Due to impending weather this weekend, FGCU can go for a series win and sweep tomorrow afternoon in a double header in Kennesaw with first pitch set for 2 PM to open the afternoon of action.
Lipscomb scored a combined 28 runs in a double header sweep of Texas Southern in non-conference action. A 17-2 drubbing opened the day for Lipscomb, highlighted by a Chandler Chambers grand slam in the latter stages of the game. While it took a bit more time for Lipscomb to connect on all cylinders in the second game, the team erupted for six runs between the fourth and fifth innings to blow open the lead and cruise to a game two victory. The Bisons can complete the non-league sweep tomorrow afternoon with a 2 PM CT first pitch set in Nashville.
