River City Rumble Highlights Third Weekend of @ASUNBSB Conference Play

 

ATLANTA, GA. - ASUN Conference Baseball starts to heat up this weekend, as all nine of the conferences' squads enter their third weekend of league play. The rivalry between North Florida and Jacksonville in the River City highlight the weekend's slate of games.

FGCU Eagles (19-9; 1-2)

-  After sweeping Towson last weekend in a non-conference series, FGCU welcomes Lipscomb to Swanson Stadium having won eight of the last ten meetings
- Infielder Jay Hayes paces the ASUN in both RBIs and sits second in batting average and HRs so far this season. The senior has tallied a .392 average and driven in 32 RBIs with six HRs
- Mason Studstill ranks second in the ASUN in ERA with a mark of 1.29. He's surrendered just two ER over his last 19 innings

Jacksonville Dolphins (19-10, 5-1)

- The Dolphins travel across town to battle with rival North Florida. Jacksonville took two of three from UNF in last year's series
- Jacksonville sits tied atop the ASUN standings with Liberty, each holding a 5-1 conference record. The Dolphins are the highest RPI team in the ASUN at 68
- JU upended in-state power Florida State on Tuesday night in Tallahassee. It marks Jacksonville's first W at FSU since 2016

Kennesaw State Owls (15-15; 3-3)

- The Owls have the weekend off from ASUN Conference action as they host non-conference foe UNC Wilmington at Stillwell Stadium
- As a team, Kennesaw State paces the ASUN in homers with 26. Garrett Hodges leads the squad with six homers and 27 knocked in
- Kennesaw State has proved to be one of the best offenses in the ASUN ranking top two in BA, OBP, SLG%, total bases, RBIs, HRs, hits and runs scored

Liberty Flames (22-6; 5-1)

- Liberty travels to Florence, Ala., for a three-game set with the North Alabama. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
- The Flames lead the ASUN Conference and is 15th nationally with a 2.98 ERA. The Flames also are 12th nationally in WHIP (1.12) and seventh in hits allowed per nine innings (6.71)
- Liberty has garnered ASUN Player of the Week honors in each of the last three weeks. Logan Mathieu, Jonathan Embry, and Brandon Rohrer have each received the honor. Rohrer became the latest to pick-up the award

Lipscomb Bisons (15-12, 3-3)

- Lipscomb rides into the weekend on a four-game win streak, as they swept Kennesaw State last weekend and toppled Austin Peay in the midweek this past Tuesday
- The Bisons have a penchant for the big hit, leading the conference with nine triples heading into the weekend. Maddux Houghton leads the squad with three triples, tops among all ASUN players
- Houghton (.356), Chris Bashlor (.349) and Zeke Dodson (.337) rank seventh, eighth and 10th in the individual batting average leaders, joining FGCU as the only teams to place three players in the top 10

NJIT Highlanders (9-13-1; 2-4)

- NJIT travels down to DeLand this weekend to face defending champion, Stetson for a three-game series.
- Sophomore Julio Marcano has already set a career-high with three home runs this season and is just three RBIs away from collecting 20 in a season for the first time after finishing with 19 in his freshman campaign
- Justin Etts had a huge series last weekend against Jacksonville, as he socked a home run and knocked in six runs during the three-game set with JU

North Alabama Lions (6-22; 1-5)

- The Lions welcome one of the ASUN's top squads to Florence this weekend, as the Liberty Flames pay the Lions a visit for a conference series
- North Alabama is coming off an historic win in the midweek, as they upset #18 Ole Miss on Tuesday. It was UNA's first win against an SEC team since 1992 and first-ever win over a top 20 foe.
- Davis Elliot and Harris Kain were the two that did the damage against the Rebels on Tuesday, as they combined to go 6-10 with six RBIs and four runs scored

North Florida Ospreys (16-15; 2-4)

- The Ospreys look to get back on track this weekend against Jacksonville, as they come into the weekend series on a five game slide
- North Florida dropped the regular season series with JU last season, but made up for it by upsetting the Dolphins en route to a ASUN Championship Final appearance
- Jay Prather sits fourth in the conference with a .377 average in 31 games this season. The senior previously topped out at a .286 average last season in his first with the UNF program

Stetson Hatters (12-16; 2-1)

- Stetson returns home to Melching Field this weekend for its ASUN Conference home opener against NJIT. The Hatters took three of four matchups from NJIT last season
- The Hatters took two of three from North Alabama in its first ASUN series of the year last week. Stetson outscored UNA 27-15 in the series
- Pitcher Chris Gonzalez nabbed ASUN Pitcher of the Week honors this week, after tossing a complete game against UNA last weekend. Gonzalez sits third in the ASUN with a 1.83 ERA.
