Eagles Capitalize on Bisons Miscues; Eliminate Lipscomb in 8-6 Victory

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - FGCU avoided elimination for the second-straight day at the 2016 Atlantic Sun Baseball Championship with an 8-6 victory against No. 4 Lipscomb. It marks the third-straight season the Eagles are one of three teams remaining in the conference tournament and fourth time in past five seasons.

After Lipscomb chased FGCU starter Ryan Lang from the contest in the third inning due to nine hits and five earned runs, Garrett Anderson entered and nearly silenced the Bisons' bats with three hits and one unearned run over the final 6.1 innings to secure his second win of the season. He fanned six batters and issued zero walks as the junior helped the Eagles reach day four of the conference tournament.

Lipscomb opened the scoring in the first inning on Adam Lee's moonshot over the batting cages in left field scoring Lee Solomon from third. It pushed his league-leading RBI total to 64 and marked his seventh homer of the season. Tevin Symonette followed his path in the in the third with a shot of his own scoring fellow freshman Zeke Dodson, who reached base on an RBI single earlier in the inning. The Bisons would add only one additional run in the game coming in the ninth on an RBI groundout.

FGCU earned a share of its runs in the third inning with a four spot as a throwing error allowed all four runs to be unearned. Matt Roberts & Corey Fehribach scored on the costly mistake before Jake Smith added an RBI double and Zach Spivey tallied a sacrifice fly. 

The Eagles added runs in the fifth and sixth to increase their production to eight on the scoreboard. Stefano Belmonte's sacrifice fly plated Smith in the fifth. In the sixth, Gage Morey scored on a wild pitch and was followed by an RBI double by Matt Reardon and RBI single from Belmonte's bat. 

FGCU advances to face No. 2 North Florida at 1 p.m. CT in another elimination game with the winner earning a spot against No. 6 Stetson in the ASUN Championship Final scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch on Saturday.
