NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Freshmen delivered plenty of scoring for Lipscomb as the host team of the 2016 Atlantic Sun Baseball Championship defeated No. 3 seed Jacksonville, 10-8, to complete day one of the conference tournament. All-Freshman Team nod, Tevin Symonette connected on two homers early in the contest, while Zeke Dodson added two RBIs in the eighth inning.
Junior Hunter Hanks matched Symonette for the team game-high of three RBIs as he produced a two-run homer in the second inning before adding a RBI double in the sixth. ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Lee Solomon collected a game-high four hits with two RBIs as the Bisons tallied runs in four separate innings.
ASUN Pitcher of the Year, Brady Puckett extended his conference leading win total to nine as the sophomore fanned eight Jacksonville batters over seven innings, while allowing nine hits and four earned runs. JU's stable of pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts with starter Nathan Disch opening with four and Chris Gau tallying five in relief.
Offensively for the Dolphins, Angel Camacho registered two RBIs and three batters totaled at least two hits; Parker Perez & Connor Stephens netted three, while Austin Hays tacked on two. Hays produced his league-leading 15th homer of the season with a solo shot to deep right center field in the sixth. Jacksonville attempted a comeback rally with two runs in the seventh, one in the eighth and three in the ninth. The Dolphins brought the winning run to the plate twice in the ninth, but Lipscomb's Cody Glenn shut the door for his first save of the season.
The Bisons advance to the Thursday 7 p.m. CT contest against No. 2 North Florida, while Jacksonville faces No. 6 Stetson at 3 p.m. CT as the Dolphins hope to avoid elimination.
