ATLANTA, Ga. - A combined eight ASUN Conference Beach Volleyball teams were honored last week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as Team Academic Award recipients for the 2018-19 academic year. A total of 41 Division I Beach Volleyball programs were recognized.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
For the seventh time since 2012, Stetson found themselves on the AVCA academic list. The Hatters also received AVCA Honor Roll status for having one of the top-10 GPAs in the nation.
FGCU and Jacksonville also received the Team Academic honors. The Eagles registered a program-record 3.65 cumulative GPA, which was highlighted by seven student-athletes with a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Of the 41 beach volleyball programs honored by the AVCA, the Dolphins stood apart as one of the top-five programs in the nation with an impressive 3.829 team GPA.
Coastal Carolina and Morehead have earned the award in back-to-back seasons. Jacksonville State, Mercer and North Florida also earned the honor from the AVCA for the 2018-19 year. Of the 41 Beach Volleyball programs, 21 of them were recognized for beach and indoor, six of those programs participate in the ASUN for Beach Volleyball.
In total the AVCA honored a record 1,125 teams among all collegiate and high school levels. That breaks the all-time record set last season at 973. For a full list of this year's recipients click here.
